GHRP-2

A synthetic peptide that prompts growth-hormone release through the ghrelin pathway. Used in research as a pituitary-function test.

In plain terms: GHRP-2 is a lab-made peptide that signals the body to release growth hormone through the ghrelin "door." It has actually been used as a medical test of how well the pituitary gland works. Research is mostly early-stage.

What it is

GHRP-2 (also called Pralmorelin) is a synthetic peptide in the growth-hormone secretagogue group. It prompts the body to release its own growth hormone through the ghrelin pathway.

In some countries it has been used as a diagnostic test of pituitary function. Most other research is early-stage.

Mechanism

GHRP-2 plugs into the ghrelin (GHS) docking point to prompt growth-hormone release. It is often studied alongside GHRH-type peptides because the two work through different doors and can be compared or combined in research.

The growth-hormone-to-IGF-1 chain is the downstream system of interest.

State of the literature

GHRP-2 has pharmacology and some diagnostic research behind it. Use outside those settings is not established. It is not an approved drug in most markets.

What to keep in mind

The fact that GHRP-2 has been used as a clinical test does not mean general use is supported — a one-time diagnostic dose and ongoing use are very different things. As with all the secretagogues, the broader human evidence is limited. Read the research and keep the diagnostic use separate from the marketing claims.
