Cagrilintide

What it is

Cagrilintide is a lab-made version of amylin, a hormone released alongside insulin that helps signal fullness. It is engineered to last about a week in the body, so it can be used once weekly in research.

It is studied both on its own and combined with semaglutide. As an experimental compound, it is not an approved medicine.

Mechanism

Amylin works in the brain to tell you that you have eaten enough. Cagrilintide acts on the same amylin/calcitonin signaling system to extend that fullness signal.

The interest in pairing it with semaglutide is that the two hormones reduce appetite through different routes, which researchers study for a combined effect on weight and fat loss.
